Step right up, step right up folks and witness the death defying, dare devilish, wizardry of our high wire artist. You’ll see things you’ve never seen before! Watch as she spins in circles, over and over again all while trying to keep her lunch down. And, after that amazing feat, ladies and gentlemen, she’ll go shopping like nobody’s business and attempt to ride the credit card roller coaster sixteen times in a row. Why do we do this? We love to amuse you, our adoring spectators! It’s all in the show folks! Step right up, you won’t be disappointed!
Once again, I am feeling as if I’m on a sinister carnival carousel, operated by the fiendish mind of Stephen King, spinning endlessly out of control. Sadly, the fiendish mind is my own and I’m the one operating this out of control whirling dervish carousel of financial fun. There comes a time every year where I look back on my finances and wonder why I decided to get back on whatever shopaholic ride I’m on.
I had lunch yesterday with a good friend and we starting talking materialism, minimalism and “stuff”. You know the stuff that makes you stress and worry for no apparent reason other than the fact you have too much stuff, yep it was one of those types of lunches. One where we tried to solve all the world’s problems while standing screaming on a soapbox and only to realize no one is listening, not even our own brain washed minds.
What did we rant about?
- I just want less. Less of everything.
- I am tired of the crap, tired of chasing my own tail to get to the top of know where in particular at work.
- I am tired of the financial state I am in and I am tired of saying that year after year.
- I want to unplug from the Matrix. Not kidding on this one…I would like to rid myself of the subconscious shopping behaviour I have.
The mind shift continues and I know with focus and determination I can fight the shopaholic in me.
My next project? Every time I go online to shop, I am tweeting about it. If I enter a shopping mall or store, I am tweeting about it. I caught myself mindlessly walking through the Eaton Centre in Toronto after lunch today. Hopefully, you’ll hear radio silence from me. If not, I fully permit you to type in caps lock in your tweets to me.
What financial project have you created for yourself that you’ve had success with?
P.S. Please excuse the up and down posting schedule, I’m finally getting used to juggling work, school and blogging. 🙂
