One of my “feel good” visual goals was to Live Simply and to live like a starving artist. So, I’m taking a page right out of Frugalwoods and challenging myself to an Uber Frugal Month for January. The end result being that I hope to continue “uber frugal” for the remainder of the year. But, I’m taking this 30 days at a time, as after all, I’ve cut myself off from clothing and other spending cold turkey, no need for world domination all in one shot!
Slow and steady wins the race like they say. Start off with small things and keep building from there.
Aside from clothing, my two major weaknesses are food and Starbucks. Food can easily get out of control with too many restaurants outings. I find that I’m pretty good with groceries and thanks to my handy new Costco membership and a new low cost grocery store in town; I’m off to a good start with food expenses.
Restaurants can prove challenging when friends want to get together, so I’ve committed to only one get together this month with a second being at someone’s house instead.
Let’s Get on this Uber Frugal Train
I had already started out this month with a balanced budget and plan to stick to it. A few of the highlights:
- Zero budget for shopping as per my 2015 No Spend Challenge.
- I have reduced my $25 a month Starbucks to $15, if I can get through the month with $0, even better!
- Groceries are at my standard $250 in my budget, but I’m challenging myself to reduce it to $200 for January. For an overall food spend of $345.
I do realize we are 11 days into the month already and it might be a tad late for this post but not to fret my friends, next month will be Uber Frugal Month in Hawaii. Now there’s a challenge to watch for.
And for the devil’s advocates out there – yes, I realize a starving artist would have zero Starbucks and zero restaurant outings, I hear you. I’m trying to ease into this and as I mentioned, not attempt world domination all in one month!
It’s important that I change my lifestyle for the betterment of my finances, and in order to have success, I need to take this slowly and thirty days at a time.
