Today’s my last day in Hawaii and I’m super sad to go, as I always am. I need to get my hustle on so I can live here at least 6 months of the year. The only things that bring me back home are my friends and my cat Maggie, there’s nothing else holding me to the land of cold in Toronto, Canada right now. Ok, maybe my road bike too – can’t live without cycling in the summer. How’s that for living with less?
Week 2 and a Half Roundup
Most Expensive Meal – Ready for this one? Dinner for 3 at U’lu in the Four Seasons Hualalai, cost $255.21 USD or $327.87 CDN. The food is fantastic and they have the best sunset around, unfortuantely I paid for all of it. You know it’s pricey when you pay $24 for 5 slices of Ahi Sashimi and $18 for a very small golden beet salad. Sadly, I’ve found it’s cheaper to drink alcohol than eat in Hawaii, my 300mL bottle of Sake was $40. Same as the food! *shrug*
Most Frugal Meal – Nothing like a picnic to keep things frugal! The Ahi Tuna jerky was $13.99 for a big bag and has lasted over a week for lunches. Here’s a few shots of our frugal lunches and brekkies.
Most Expensive Gas Fill-up – $3.07 USD a Gallon at Aloha Fuels. Not really a fillup as I only put $5USD in so I could get to Costco for a cheaper fillup.
Most Frugal Gas Fill-up – $2.99 USD a Gallon at Costco.
Total Miles Travelled and Gas Money Spent? $101.61 USD for Monday thru to Tuesday this week. 814 Miles travelled. WOW!
Frugal Gas Fillup Tip: Use Gasbuddy. I wanted to make sure I was getting the best price around as some of the local stations can be cheaper than Costco so I downloaded the Gasbuddy.com app and used it as I drove around the island.
What Did I Spend My Hard Earned Coin on in Week 2.5?
All totals in USD and including 4.166% state tax (yep, how awesome is that compared to 13% in Ontario? – WTF?)
Starbucks – $30.05 for 3 mugs and I used my app to buy a Grande Soy Iced Caramel Macchiato. 3 guesses on how much that cost me. GO! Give up? It cost a whopping $7.19 Canadian!!! For point of reference, I usually pay about $5.50 in Canada.
Trip to Costco – $14.57 for Ahi Tuna Jerky which has come in very handy for lunches and is very yummy.
Trip to Walmart – $4.98 Coconut Water 1L
Trip to KTA – $4.89 for some yummy shortbread cookies made in Hawaii.
Dinner for 3 at U’lu Four Seasons $255.21
Total Spent for week 2.5 $411.31 USD for last Monday (Feb 23rd to Wednesday Mar 4th)
I close with a Hawaiian sunset and when you read my next post, I’ll be back in Toronto in the frigid cold. Until then, Stay Frugal my Friends!
