If I could buy everyone in my life a book for Christmas, I would. You see, I’m all for self-improvement and books are just a natural go-to for me. They have the power to provide inspiration, knowledge, hope, healing, and spiritual guidance. Many books have come into my life and precipitated great change.
I’ve had books help me understand divorce and my feelings, books that offered enlightenment and spiritual growth, and books that remind you that no matter how old you are, you still have the power to dream and imagine. I’m looking at you, Harry Potter.
In addition to expanding your mind and intellect, books are a great gift for the minimalist in your life. Because when you’re done with them, you can regift, lend, donate, or sell them. Personally, I’m one for donating to the local library or gifting to a friend. It’s that pay it forward with a book kind of deal.
So whether you’re looking for a stocking stuffer or a meaningful gift for the minimalist in your life, here are 9 books that make great Christmas gifts:
Perfect for the creative in your life! Whether she’s running a business already or has thoughts of turning a hobby into a business, this is the book to give. It contains tips and advice from over 100 female entrepreneurs in various creative fields. It really gets into how to embrace your creative spirit, overcoming doubts, obstacles and other forms of adversity, and provides inspiration for women of all ages that it’s not too late to get started. In the Company of Women shows what is possible when we pursue our passions and dreams.
This is one book at the top of my wish list this year. And while I may not receive it as a gift, it’ll probably be a self-gift for Christmas. I mean, who says I can’t gift myself a book I’m dying to read? Love Her Wild is a collection of new and beloved poems from Atticus, the young writer who has captured the hearts and minds of hundreds of thousands of avid followers on Instagram (@atticuspoetry).
Here’s one of my fave poems that I quoted on my Instagram (@michsummerfield):
“She was one of the rare ones, so effortlessly herself, and the world loved her for it.”
I mean, come on!? Beautiful, right? Everything Atticus writes is simple and beautiful. This one is perfect for that amazing woman in your life. Whether it’s your mom, your bestie, a fellow entrepreneur, what’s not to appreciate with a gift of poetry?
Oh hey, Harry Potter is on this list! Did you think this one was a boo boo? Well, think again. No matter your age or life circumstances, you can always use some dreaming and imagination in your life. And you know, it’s always good to throw in some fun fiction between all that non-fiction we all tend to read. Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone is the first installment in the series of boy wizard books and the perfect gift for that friend who is new to the wizarding world.
To make this a super fun gift idea, consider gifting one of the 20th-anniversary special editions:
This was the book of 2015 for me. I devoured it in a day. Big Magic is an inspirational book for the creative in your life. It’s a great gift for those who may need a boost of inspiration, and that gentle nudge to embrace curiosity and how to face down what we fear most. She discusses the attitudes, approaches, and habits we need to live our most creative lives. It’s a perfect gift for not only those wanting to make art or write a book but also for those wanting to simply infuse everyday life with more mindfulness and passion.
I’m going to say one thing: Oprah. I mean, who wouldn’t want the gift of Oprah for Christmas? Oprah’s Super Soul Sundays are well known for moments of inspiration and soul expanding insight that has enlightened millions. As she explains best, “If you want to be more fully present and live your life with a wide-open heart, this is the place to come to.”
The book features selections from the most meaningful conversations between Oprah and today’s most admired thought leaders. It’s a timeless keepsake and perfect for those looking to discover a deeper connection with the world around them.
Now, I’m not always one for gifting cookbooks unless you know the person really well. Strangely, some people read more into the gift of a cookbook than you expect. You know, the whole “are you saying I’m fat?” or, “are you judging how I eat?” type of deal. But, if I had a friend that was looking to eat healthy or kept commenting on how glowy I am or that I’m always eating such colorful, yummy foods, I’d consider gifting the Oh She Glows Boxed Set. It’s full of simple, healthy meals that won’t break your wallet. It offers recipes for Vegan, Gluten Free, Dairy Free and more.
Not only is this a stunning coffee table book, it’s also full of rich photography, spirited quotes and profiles, amusing anecdotes, words of wisdom, personal essays, and signature kate spade new york “she” statements. It’s the perfect gift for the fashionista looking for inspiration on living life to the fullest, every single day.
Another beautiful coffee table book, Harper’s Bazaar 150 Years highlights the most iconic pieces of work from the magazine’s archives. I had the opportunity to flip through a library copy of this and was stunned by the beautiful photography and typography. Not only is this a great gift for the coffee table book lover, it’s perfect for an afficiando of typeset, graphic design, and stunning magazine layouts.
