Heya! When I received the invite titled, “Tata Harper x Detox Yoga Event” in my inbox in May I was pretty intrigued. Why? Well, it’s simple really. I wondered what yoga + clarifying masks could potentially involve. I mean, would I be downward dogging whilst applying a mask to my face? Or, would I be Shavasana-ing with a mask on? Falling asleep in corpse pose with a clarifying mask could potentially work wonders. And I also wondered, who is this Tata Harper all decked out in green and yellow I’m hearing about?
Let me just say that it was an amazing experience that left me enlightened, feeling refreshed in my body, and with a new 100% natural skin care brand I am in love with.
Tata Harper is a very chic 100% Natural & Non-toxic premium skincare brand. While Tata Harper’s collection is on the slightly pricier side, if you’re looking for a few new all natural go-to’s to add to your regular skincare regime, Tata Harper is a great place to start.
But let’s get on to the juicy stuff!
Tata Harper x Detox Yoga Event
When I arrived at Moksha Yoga in Downtown Toronto, I was ushered up to their second level studio where other influencers and bloggers were. I swear I was the oldest person there! I was surround by younguns’ all decked out in their lululemons or Ivy Park gear. I was introduced to the reps from The Detox Market Canada and Tata Harper and given a brief walk through of the natural products used in the line. You’ll see in the pics above some of the all-natural ingredients used. It was fun to see them up close and realize, hey, this is all that goes into the skincare line. No strange-looking chemicals. We could pick up each little jar and sniff the ingredient – super awesome!
The Detox Market Canada hosted this wonderful event and I have to say, I’m in love. The story behind TDM is one of transformation and a quest to detoxify life. The founder, Valerie, was battling breast cancer and knew that removing the nasty chemicals from her life would help with her overall health and well-being. She researched the green beauty movement and began to create a community around pure, effective and elegant products. I have to say, their mission aligns directly with the type of life I lead. With any beauty product I consider, I ask questions, I read and re-read the ingredient list, and opt for the most natural product available. Check out their nasty ingredients we don’t allow page.
Tata Harper. What can I say? It’s new to me. Up until this point, I had only seen the bright green and yellow packaging popping up in a few stores. Little did I know that it’s a brand that aligns with my chic minimalist health conscious lifestyle. The name of the line is hers, and she believes, “people deserve beauty products that deliver the results they want, without synthetic chemicals of concern. As a company we seek to challenge the assumption that ‘natural’ means less effective. I’m passionate about promoting a modern, health-conscious natural beauty lifestyle that’s committed to safety, honesty and sustainability.” Couldn’t have said it better myself Tata!
Downward Clarifying Mask
Yes, there was a mask involved while downward dogging. It was super fun BTW. We all chose our mats, donned a green bandanna, applied the Tata Harper Clarifying Mask, and got straight down to yoga business.
The first thing I noticed about the mask? The lovely smell – honey and herbal. The second? A slight tingling sensation (good tingling of course) and then a fresh, cool feeling. Every time I inhaled deeply for a yoga pose, I inhaled all this lovely herbal goodness. It was so soothing and calming.
Masks and scrubs are a must for me. I’ve got combination skin that is still acne prone (hormones anyone?), and loves these types of products (read: glowing skin). At least once a week, I include a mask and/or scrub as part of my self-care Sunday routine.
*Please note that these items were gifted to me from Tata Harper and The Detox Market Canada for my review and opinion. However, all opinions and views are my own and are completely honest. I really do love using these!
Tata Harper Review
First, let’s give you a run down on my skin. You know, so you can figure out how these products will work on yours.
My skin: Combination with a tendency to dry out depending on the product applied. My skin is oiliest in summer across my nose, cheeks and my chin. I’m prone to hormonal acne and I have enlarged pores across my cheeks and nose.
As my skin ages (I’m 41), I’ve noticed a few things happening:
1. It’s much more sensitive to what I put on it (some redness),
2. What used to work doesn’t work anymore (skin changes, right?), and
3. Drugstore brands don’t always cut it anymore.
This of course means that I end up purchasing more expensive products. But you know what? This doesn’t bother me. Whaaa?!! I know, I know! As much as I loathe spending inordinate amounts of cash, I do believe in the simple philosophy of quality over quantity. I pick my places to spend. And well, your skin is kind of important – just a little. *note my sarcasm*
The short form – I take care of my skin – inside and out. Simple as that.
It’s probably the reason why people think I’m ten years younger than I am and why I receive comments from friends saying my skin looks so smooth and amazing. The actual reference was to a Barbie doll but you know, last time I checked, I wasn’t plastic so I’ll equate the comment to smooth looking skin. I’ve also had people remark that I’m glowing. Maybe I should be a beauty blogger instead? Share all my anti-aging secrets 😉 Trust me, simple living is a huge factor.
What is it? A green herbal mask.
Who is it for? Anyone with blemish-prone skin. Hello 40-something hormonal crazy out of whack skin that’s one day excessively oily and the next insanely dry.
What does it do? “The ultimate weapon against any skin imperfection to get your skin back to looking healthy, balanced, and clear.”
How to apply/remove: At the event, we applied the mask with a simple makeup sponge evenly all over the face. At home, I slathered it on with my fingers with little trouble. It is a bit thick and sticky (honey remember?), so it will take a small amount of work to get on. It will feel gummy and stay tacky as it dries.
Leave on for 20 minutes for the full benefit.
To remove, first wet your fingers with water and massage the mask on your skin a bit. The mask has quartz sand micro-crystals which provide a gentle exfoliation to soften and smooth skin. So take a few extra moments to massage it around before wiping it off with a damp sponge or cloth. I noticed that it does take a bit of effort to remove it all if you’re using a damp sponge.
My fave removal? Hop in the shower, wet your hands, massage around your face, then rinse under the water while massaging.
My thoughts: It’s refreshing and it works. I’ve used it several times since the yoga event and am falling more in love with it. As an eco-concious gal, I love the fact that its all-natural and non-toxic. Hence why I’m willing to pay a bit more than drugstore brands.
It clears and exfoliates my skin all at the same time. Since I’m prone to the occasional pimple and have some enlarged pores, I find it shrinks pores and minimizes redness. My skin is glowing and radiant when I’m done.
Repurchase: Yes please or No way? Yes please! Although this mask was kindly gifted to me, I would without a doubt repurchase this when it runs out. It would be a less expensive alternative to the La Mer Refining Facial I currently use. $91 CDN versus $130? YES PLEASE!
Cost: $91 CDN at The Detox Market Canada.
What is it? A lightweight moisturizing mist to plump and hydrate your skin. It’s got hyaluronic acid for that plumping effect.
Who is it for? Everyone. Tata recommends keeping it in your purse for whenever you need an instant boost of hydration and radiance.
How to apply/remove: Super easy – one to two spritzes on your face will do. I close my eyes, hold about 6 inches away from my face and spritz. Quick tip: This product will change color over time (don’t worry) and have things floating in it due to the natural ingredients. I simply give it a light shake each time I use it.
My thoughts: Face mists are new to my regime. It’s not normally something I splurge on. The most I’ve ever spritzed on is Vichy Water or Evian Water which usually always came free with something or other. Let me say that I was quite surprised by the Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Essence. It’s soothing, moisturizing, and smells amazing! Think pink grapefruit and roses (it’s really aloe, rose and lavender). Sounds strange but smells yummy. It’s meant to act as a toner of sorts and I usually apply it after the clarifying facial or during the day when I need some moisture. It works under or over your makeup.
Repurchase: Yes please or No way? Well…since I’m not a regular facial mist user, I’d list this one as a maybe. Toners and facial mists are designed to be used after cleansing and before moisturizing because they allow your moisturizer to absorb better. At $118 for 125ml, this would be a splurge for me – not a regular use item. Honestly, you can skip it or use a few times a week. Like I mentioned, I use it once a week on my self-care Sunday right after the Clarifying Mask.
Cost: $118 CDN at The Detox Market Canada.

Honestly, I love everything about this line – it’s natural, non-toxic and smells wonderful. You know how some herbal cosmetics can smell gross? Tata Harper’s line smells amazing. And the mission – the mission of Tata Harper – gets me. You know when you can get behind a cause because it aligns with you and your lifestyle? That’s Tata Harper. I want natural beauty, I don’t want to have to compromise, and I want to trust that the brand cares about not only what they produce, but how they produce it. Being eco responsible should be the norm.
