I’ve taken great measures this year to take back control of my life. I’m taking it back from the big bank man! I can’t stand dark clouds just as much as the next person. I’m taking my life back from my bad habits, bad moods and moments of quiet desperation. Yes, I have them!
Epiphany # 1
Under the inspiration of Joan Otto over at Man vs. Debt, I took it upon myself to sign up for The Debt Movement. What is the Debt Movement you ask? It’s a group of fantastic people just like you and me, who have decided to join together and achieve a very lofty goal.
The Debt Movement: Join Jeff Rose, ReadyForZero, hundreds of financial bloggers, and thousands of real people as we pay down $10 million of debt in 90 days, starting on February 1st.
I want to be one of those people who had the conviction and determination to turn their life around and get out from under the debt rock and move to sitting on top of the prosperity mountain! I believe my work life balance will take a turn for the better if I can achieve this. Come on, tell me you don’t want this too?
So signup for the Debt Movement and join in on debt repayment bliss!
Epiphany # 2
Tracking finances can be a pain….but you have to do it.
I agree 100%…that’s why there’s tools to help you!
I must admit, much better tools than I’ve been working with. Last year consisted of 3 excel sheets (LOC, Family Debt, budget worksheet), a budget binder writing everything out the old school way! Well no more my friends! I’ve turned into a finance Superwoman and signed up for mint.com.
Yes, yes, I know….is it a secure site? Are the banking hackers going to get all my info!? I’ll admit that I was very, very nervous to begin with about the whole idea of handing over all my bank info to one site. So nervous, that I signed up, sat and debated, logged out of the site, logged back in, logged out, then in again to read their security measures.
You know what?
Two things hit me – 1. They use 128bit Secure SSL security, same as the banks do; 2. I need a tool that will show everything all in one place and remind me when I get off track.
Let me tell you, mint.com reminds you! No joke about it! You deviate an inch from your budget and you get emails, text messages, lights blinking, red bars, and exclamation marks saying No, No, NO! Bad little girl! In my case, this is exactly what I need!
GUESS WHAT’S EVEN BETTER!? And I mean even better than meeting Colin Farrell and Jake Gyllenhaal in the same day!? Sorry, my girly single gal emotions took over.
I even found this great blog post about the sign up process. http://money.yourway.net/how-to-use-mint-com-to-create-a-budget-and-set-goals/
